The Guyana Empowered Peoples Action Network (GEPAN) with support from A&R Cosmetics and private contributors hosted a Christmas party for seventy children in Linden, Region 10.

The organisation wanted to give children below the age of ten and coming from modest homes, an opportunity to socialise and have fun as part of our efforts to add cheer to this Christmas season.

To make it a success, GEPAN teamed up with local businesswoman Anjelique Temaul and a neighbourhood church to mobilise families. Goodie-bags with beverages, cupcakes, biscuits, sweets and toys were handed out to participants.

The children enjoyed face-painting and trampoline activities in presence of organisation members and parents. The party lasted for three hours, lighting up the faces of children and parents who shared in the excitement of the afternoon.

Families that participated in the event originate from Linden as well as neighbouring Amerindian communities. Because some were unable to attend due to travel expenses, packages will be delivered at their homes.

Project Coordinator Anna Campbell-Persaud who was in charge of the activity, conveyed the organisation’s best wishes for the Christmas season to the gathering. She explained that this event is one which falls within the ambit of GEPAN’s work in impoverished, rural communities, as we seek to highlight the challenges faced by the lesser privileged and give back to those who need it most.
