Our efforts to respond to the steadily growing dietary needs of families bracing the COVID-19 pandemic in Guyana are set to intensify. With the logistical support of the NTC, we continue to provide relief packages to families in indigenous communities, especially those in Region 1, who are located at the epicentre of the recent C19 spike. On July 3rd we delivered another contribution for Region 1 and would like to thank Ms Jude Da Silva who has been a tremendous help in getting our packages to indigenous communites through the National Toshaos Council (NTC).
Ms Jude Da Silva has played an instrumental role in launching and coordinating relief for indigenous communities located in the hinterland.
Our main challenge remains the difficulty to replenish our food banks as donations and funding have declined since the pandemic began against a backdrop of increasing demand. This can be linked to a general decline in economic activities in some sectors.
Despite this, we remain grateful to our network of donors who display immense faith in the work that we do. Though most of our core donors request anonymity, we pounce on this exception to thank The Giving Hearts Team for their generous contribution to our last intervention for Region 1. A new partnership!
We take this opportunity to announce that we have recently partnered with C.A.R.E. Guyana, a digital platform bringing together donors and beneficiaries. C.A.R.E. Guyana – Community Assistance Relief Effort – allows us to track contributions as we respond to the needs of beneficiaries requesting assistance. It also enables us to extend our reach to both donors and beneficiaries, while ensuring that communities in remote locations have access to this opportunity. We currently have one call for action on this website where you can directly contribute to a list of items needed for our hampers using the reference GU7NZR8. Among the items needed are basic staples, female and baby hygiene products, soaps, toothpaste, canned goods and desinfecting products. Donors can subsequently now donate through the C.A.R.E.
