A group of children in Red Village

The Guyana Empowered Peoples Action Network (GEPAN) in  an attempt to support education and assist parents in Red Village, Essequibo Coast, Region 2, distributed stationery to Primary School children within the community.

After having worked in the community earlier this year in partnership with the Suddie Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), the organisation with the help of generous members, was able to gather enough funds to assist at least two dozen children below the age of 10 originating from modest homes.

The community of Red Village is an impoverished one located in the vicinity of Suddie. Unemployment and financial difficulties are a determining factor in the high rate of school drop-out identified in the village. Single parenting is common in Red Village, especially among women, most of whom face tremendous challenges in providing for their families.
